I am a sculptor who works predominantly in stone. My sculpture is  hand carved using only chisels, mallets and hammers with only the occasional use of power tools. I produce my own drawings, usually life drawings, for my sculpture and i refer to these whilst carving. Stone being a natural substance has its own unique characteristics, ie the grain or natural flaws in the stone, so the nature of the stone can direct or redirect the sculpture. My initial drawings are only a guide to what the finished sculpture will look like.
