As my husband is a former miner and it is the 30th anniversary of the miners strike, he asked me to publish this post this week.
Commissioned by The Lofthouse Residents Association and Leeds City Council. The slightly larger than life sculpture is carved from Yorkshire Sandstone and was quarried locally at Woodkirk. The Lofthouse Miner sculpture is a celebration of the history and heritage of the local community. The sculpture represents a coalface worker drilling the coal seam. Lofthouse Colliery closed in 1981.
