Please come and join me at Dean Clough Halifax, where I will be displaying with the Yorkshire Sculptors Group two of my most recent sculptures. Preview Saturday 9th of May. Exhibition continues until May 24th.
Had a great weekend, teaching the latest class of students on my stone carving course. Here are the wonderful sculptures that they carved. The next course is on the 6th and 7th of June. No experience necessary, please contact me for more information.
MEDIUM - Yorkshire Sandstone.
DIMENSIONS with plinth- 1440mm x 600mm x 560mm.
Composed of curved lines fruiting a hybrid stone pod with mosaic seed. What will its progeny be?
MEDIUM - Red St Bees Sand-stone
DIMENSIONS - 1100mm x 630mm x 390mm
Inspired by the bulbous sculptural form of the closed bud. This sculpture grows, developing in form from rectangular block at the base, upwards to the bulbed blend of the title, blurring the line at which plinth ends and sculpture begins.
Lunar Ellipse carved from Yorkshire stone.
The ellipse makes reference to the Luna Cycle, the waning moon and the undulating forms refer to the ribbed shapes left in the sand by the outgoing tide. Stone is a natural material varied and individual. in this piece I have exploited a natural 'flaw' in the stone to create a two-tone texture to part of the sculpture, reminiscent of a luna landscape
Please come and join me on 23rd of May at Wakefield Cathedral where I shall be giving a stone carving demonstration.
